    his is a "WESTERN ELECTRIC" model 20AL
    BRASS candlestick telephone.
    This was probably one of the last 20AL models made as it has some later improvements to the manual set.
    It has the later dated mouthpiece (bulldog) and the later receiver with the smaller element inside.
    But most of all it has a spot for the Telephone Number Plate that would not have been available when using the later mouthpiece. This is what  gives it that "rare" designation.
    Where that red bottom cover came from is anyone's guess.......it was there when I found it!
    The Receiver cap does have a crack twix two of
    the holes, but will be unnoticeable when displayed.
    The phone of course, was originally painted black, but was stripped to brass somewhere over the years.
