Western Electric B1 102 telephone with #2 dial and 685 subset - works!Today I am offering a beautiful Western Electric B1 desk set telephone, complete with a Western Electric
685A subscriber set (subset/ringer). The B1 phone was introduced in 1927, and is sometimes called a model 102.
This phone has a #2 dial. The #2 was one of the first dials used for Bell System dial service. They
make that wonderful “clickety-clack” sound that is so apparent in early movies, and so desired by phone collectors today. Just watch an early Humphrey Bogart / Lauren Bacall crime drama to be reminded of that sound. The fingerstop suggests that the dial’s number plate is a #2AB, but it is actually a much more desirable #2AA (rural - no letters) dial plate. A correct #2AA fingerstop is available from a number of sources if you decide to change it, but this has no effect on the phone's operation. The phone also has an original seamless E1 handset, which is correct for the period.
This phone has been tested and works perfectly - all you have to do is plug it in. The dial, ringer, transmitter, and receiver all work as designed on my landline connection and on my Cox digital telephone system. If you plan to connect it to your digital telephone system, you should confirm with your provider that their system accepts pulse dialing - most do.
Unlike some phones you may see for sale, this phone has not been over-restored. It cleaned and buffed up nicely, and shows as a phone that would have been in use in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
You will be proud to display it in your home, or in your collection.
I will pack this phone well, and ship it to your US address by Priority Mail. I will also ship to Canada, but the Post Office adds a surcharge for this service. US funds only, of course.
