    Description

Unusual Bronze 3-Slot Payphone Gauge  -  Notice nickle is a “true slot” (from the top). This unit is called a cast gauge. First thought corresponds this with 1912 – 1936; but it has been said that this one is possibly more recent and creation of Northern Electric other than the peculiar slot it is very very alike the 1916 – 1936 version. These were removed from some 1915 – 1927 payphones twenty or more years ago. This one is one of two now in my possession. I have no access to additional specimens. Although I have trouble discriminating between nickel and chrome, this looks like it got chrome plated in the 1950s or 1960s along with the payphone it was on.
