Description
The unit for sale is a reproduction of a Columbia Eveready #6 dry cell forradio, ignition, and general purposes use
introduced in 1925 by the National Carbon Company (NCC).
NCC marketed the first #6 dry cell in 1896 on the Columbia label, and was the sole source of this product for uses in the home, auto industry, and telephone companies in the early 1900s.
The unit is configured to produce 1.5V each with two D-Cell battery holders (wired in parallel), featuring
top entry access
for easy replacement of the batteries (not included) when necessary. The top is potted with Black
sealing
wax over
epoxy
to provide a
similar
appearance
to pitch
used in the original production. Cell dimensions (6-1/2" Ht. X 2-5/8” Dia.), weight w/D-cells (
2 lbs
.), label colors and graphics, screw terminal hardware, and
cap enclosed bottom
are nominally consistent with the original dry cell.
