    Description

Civil War Store Card for John Ferguson, Grocer in Cincinnati, Ohio
Fuld  OH165AO-4a (copper)     R-7     NGC  MS-63 RB          ex Donald Partrick
Mr. Ferguson obtained store cards from Cincinnati token maker John Stanton.  A single obverse die was combined with two stock reverse dies to strike tokens for circulation on copper planchets.  Both of these varieties are very scarce.  Other rare varieties including this one were created for Civil War era numismatists.  Many grocers issued store card tokens during the Civil War.  This grocer differentiated himself by advertising "goods delivered free of charge" on his store card tokens.  This is a business model that has proven difficult to implement even 150+ years later.  This is a very nice uncirculated specimen of this rare variety that retains much of the original red color.  As noted on the slab label, it was previously in the collection of Donald Partrick.
Shipping is free.  Should this token fail to meet your expectations, it can be returned within 30 days for a full refund.  Sales tax, if applicable,
is collected by Ebay and submitted directly to state authorities.
    We appreciate your business!
