    Description

Civil War Store Card for Francis P. Rogers, Manufacturer of Milk Cans and Dairy Fixtures in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Fuld  PA750P-2a (copper)   R-8     EF Details          Late strike full brockage with retoned color
Francis Rogers was a tinsmith who advertised his manufacturing of milk cans on store card tokens he obtained from an unidentified token maker during the Civil War.  A total of three custom dies were prepared and used for token production.  This token is a full brockage error strike created when a previously struck token stuck to the reverse die and the impression of the design of this stuck token was impressed upon the reverse of this token.  This is an example of a late strike brockage.  A number of full brockage tokens were struck before this one and the design elements of the stuck token have spread out and it lacks much of the detail that would be present on an early brockage strike.  This is a very rare error variety.  The color of this token appears to be retoned and it has some "dirty" residue in protected areas of the obverse, but it has an attractive appearance.
