Civil War Store Card for Morris S. Brown, Liquor and Cigar Dealer in New York CityFuld NY630N-5a (copper) R-6 NGC MS-64 BN slabbed prior to the 3rd edition store card book as NY630O-1a
Mr. Brown was a liquor and cigar dealer who likely used Eureka as a trade name. He obtained store card tokens from local token maker Louis Roloff. A total of seven custom dies were prepared, though two of the dies were not used to prepare tokens for circulation. Four similar obverse dies were all combined with the same reverse die for token production. The obverse die used to strike this extremely scarce variety incorrectly displays Mr. Brown's first initial as W instead of M. Prior to the publication of the 3rd edition store card book, this token variety was listed as a separate merchant and the old attribution is on the slab label. This is a high quality token
