    Civil War Store Card for Broas Brothers, Bakers in New York City

    The Broas brothers obtained store card tokens from fellow New Yorker Charles Horter.  The brothers were enthusiastic issuers of store card tokens and all of their tokens bear patriotic themes.  A total of seven custom dies were prepared and used to strike tokens for this merchant.  This token combines two of the custom dies and this die combination was used to strike tokens for circulation on both copper and brass planchets.  This is a sharply struck copper specimen certified by NGC.
