Civil War Store Card for Fred Gies & Brothers - Roofing Company in Detroit, MichiganFuld MI225AEa-6a (copper) R-4 NGC MS-62 BN slabbed prior to the 3rd edition store card book as MI225AG-1a
Fred Gies, along with his brothers Paul and John, operated a gravel roofing business. They obtained store cards from Cincinnati token maker John Stanton. Three custom obverse dies were combined with five stock reverse dies for token production. The tokens describe the roofs the Gies were selling as fire and water-proof. On two of the obverse dies, the Gies family name is misspelled. One reads Geis and the other reads Geiss. This token was struck from the obverse die with the correct spelling and it is a scarce variety. This token was slabbed prior to the publication of the 3rd edition store card book with the old attribution MI225AG-1a. Prior to the 3rd edition, each spelling of the Gies name was listed as a separate variety. All three obverse die are now consolidated under the listing for Fred Gies.
Shipping is free. Should this token fail to meet your expectations, it can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Sales tax, if applicable,
