Description

Civil war token patriotic type 237/423a, R-2, copper. The obverse shows a representation of the ship, with "OUR LITTLE MONITOR", split above and below it. The Monitor is shown in the appearance of motion with the smoke being blown back over it and the flag at the stern standing out. The obverse is light to medium brown, with virtually full subdued luster visible across the surface. The reverse shows an wreath, open at the top. with an anchor at the opening. At the bottom, are two crossed cannons, and a stack of 3 cannon balls. In the center of the wreath is the date, 1863. This side is also light to medium brown in color, also showing subdued luster across the surface. The right upper side of the wreath shows a dark reddish color with a little dark brown to black next to it. The left side of the wreath has a light scratch across toward the date in the center.
