    THE ITEM DESCRIPTION:
    The Century Telephone Construction Co. was based in Buffalo, NY. This nickel finish candlestick phone(produced circa 1905) has a slightly tapered shaft with a very unusual & perhaps rare feature – the shaft splits open when the knurled knob at top is loosened. I do not know the purpose of the split shaft. I have seen a Stromberg Carlson candlestick with this feature. The telephone stands 11” tall. Overall condition is excellent. The finish on the base is excellent. The shaft shows some very light pitting to the nickel & some brass is showing thru. The mouthpiece is a heavy, metal material painted black. The transmitter head is marked in back Century Telephone Construction Co. Buffalo, N.Y. The nickel finish is overall excellent with only some wear & light pitting on the tapered shaft. The receiver is marked Pat. in U.S.A. & patent applied for May 16, 1899 & Dec 6, 1900. The bottom of the receiver can be removed. There is some slight chipping around the top of the part that can be removed & the shaft. The underside of the base is wood. All of the telephones that I have for sale are being sold “as is” & “as found.” I never did any work to the phones in my collection which was assembled between the years 1990 & 1994.
