Description
Up for auction is this antique circa 1870s Japanese Meiji period large serving bowl / deep charger.Rare shape with lobed floral rim and exquisite enamel painted detail. We see quatrefoil patterns and grapes with vine scrolls and leafy foliage amongst floral sprays. Wonderful colors on this piece and originally had a gilt rim, with still some remnants on the rim. There is some enamel loss mainly in the center blue band with Greek key scroll.
I see a firing line on the rim - does not seem like a crack because it doesn’t show on front or back of that line and it seems like it happened during its production. Back shows many blue ring concentric lines and seven dots where it was resting in the kiln.
In good overall condition and displays beautifully!
Measures about 13” inches long and wide and 2.3” inches tall (33 cm, 5.8 cm).
Would make a fantastic display piece, fine addition to a collection, or a great gift!
