This phone is in working order as a standard phone, it does collect coins into the coin box. Coins ding and chime as they should.
Yes I do have an old type Telephone Land line that it was tested on.
I bought this phone with several others at a local auction and do not know any history prior to my purchase, I do not know the model. Please do your own research.
The Nickle will toggle the transmitter on and off. For Novelty use, dial a number when the other party answers they will not be able to hear you until you deposit one nickel. After the call deposit a Nickle to reset the transmitter to off for the next call. You may leave the transmitter on for normal use requiring no coins.
William Gray patented the early 3 slot payphones in the 1890’s This style 3 slot was first made around 1912 and was discontinued around 1972. There were several manufactures of these 3 slot payphones Gray and Automatic Electric were two. I believe General Telephone (Automatic Electric) bought the Gray Company around 1934.
This telephone is old and may have some minor scratches and dings.
The Ringer box (Subset) is included to complete this phone allow it to function. Look at the pictures for the best description. Please do your own research.
Check with your phone service provider and make sure they are compatible with pulse dialing. Some VOIP or cable phone services do not accept pulse dialing and this phone may not dial out with those services. If needed a PULSE to TONE converter can be bought on EBAY from other sellers. I have been told that there also Bluetooth devices that may make this phone compatible with your Cell phone as well.
