1918 Payphone Basics Top,Bottom and Back
Top is cast, was stronger. Pre-dial era (1912 - 1917), but hole cut for a dial. It has the old cast coin gauge on top, which was on it when I bought it in the mid-1990s. As it was with payphones 1912 - 1950s, it was chrome plated. The backboard is the cast 2-stand of style (1915-1926), there is a small chunk out of the rim of the back of the backboard (top right) I had not noticed. The bottom housing is very seldom seen and rarely encountered. One collector/historian suggests/believes that it is one of the first steel bottoms made (1918) before the names were stamped into the front. In the absence of any fact-backed history on these bottoms, we deduct by having experienced parallels and other observations along with imagination. The floor has the “railroad” track design like as to pre-1918 bottoms have. I consider this bottom to be as rare as a 50A bottom; perhaps so little known such as other one-of-a-kind finds.  I've only sold only just the bottom of a 50A for ,000 and /but here are 3 early pieces which may match with some correctness for nearly the same price or 96 gauges.  I have other parts for these units but thinking that you also may have, but are missing the main ingredients.
