    1903 Western Electric Telephone Installer/Repairman’s 1D Test Set This is a 1903 telephone installer & repairman’s 1D test set frequently called a butt set because it was carried on their belt and hung around their butt. The test set is all brass which was painted black. This unit has the alligator clips used by outside telephone technicians to connect to the wide variety of connections they might find. The set has been tested and works well. The handset is 8 ½” long. The cords are in good shape. This is very valuable tool for testing phone service and trouble shooting an existing telephone. The ring around the receiver is marked: PROPERITY OF THE AMERICAN TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH CO. The ring around the transmitter is marked: PROPERITY OF THE AMERICAN TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH CO.
