Sharp Danish JYDSK TELEFON AKTIESELSKAB Crank Wall PhoneLovely Mahogany & Metal Case & Terrific Mechanical's Inside
Approx: 27"H x 13"W x 10"D, 18.5 lbs, Circa: 1900-1920's
Very nice antique phone with an incredible display pop! Great compliment to any antiqued room, vintage home or other. The phone appears complete and almost all original. It has a metal front to housing and rich grain Mahogany wood case. The shiny brass components add further appeal to phone. The handset is marked "MADE IN SWEDEN BY A.B.L.M. ERICSSON & C
o
STOCKHOLM PATENTED OCT 29, 1895". Most listings and sales of these phones we could locate, date them from 1900 to 1920, but the only date on the phone is on the handset so hard to know exactly. The phone is in great shape except for the peeling paint on the metal cabinet case front, otherwise we would call it exceptional for it's age and is still certainly better than most from the era. It has a four bar magneto and the internal components look almost mint. There is a little bit of rust or corrosion on interior cabinet metal base as shown in picture #11 in photo gallery, but it is minor and would clean up pretty well if you chose. The ear piece cover appears to be a replacement as it has a fitted black tape wrap inside so it fits snug on headset, you can see the black tape under edge of cap if you look real close at photo #2 in gallery (does not effect look of phone at all but we wanted to note it). Otherwise we think the rest of phone is all original.
Although this is a crank style phone, we are not sure the bells ever rang when cranked like the American made crank phones. We reviewed over 25 sales of JYDSK phones in this style and others and only one mentioned the bells actually ringing when cranked. The crank mechanism seems to work fine. To open the phone casing, you must first pull out the crank handle gently and the hold the crank rod bar (the bar the handle screws into that goes into the phone casing) with something and then turn the handle counter clockwise to remove. This allows you to open the case as it will not open without doing so. It is really very easy, once you have done it. (You can always contact us after purchase if you have questions.)
Jydsk Telefon was a Danish telecom company from 1895 until 1992. The company was founded in 1895 as Jydsk Telfon-Aktieselskab which was a merger of 17 private Jutland telephone companies. The state took over majority control of the company in 1942. It was the second largest company serving the region. More information can be found on the company's history online.
We priced this under 2 inferior conditioned phones of this type that sold on eBay in January (5) & March (0) of 2021. Sorry, US shipping only.
